EARLY CHILDHOOD

About Early Childhood

Welcome to the Salt Lake City School District Early Childhood program! We have Parents as Teacher ™ (PAT) programs and pre-kindergarten programs that provide services for families and their children, birth through age 5. We know that parents are their child’s first and most influential teachers, and together we present the best learning opportunities for children. The first school experiences are important times for discovery and exploration that also provide opportunities to develop independence and social awareness for the beginning of a successful school and life experience.

All of our programs are developmentally and culturally appropriate, specifically designed to meet the needs of individual students. We provide child-centered environments, safe materials, meaningful and engaging instruction, and the emotional support that will guide your child’s learning in all areas of development: social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language.

Through our Parents as Teachers™ programs, we provide opportunities for parents of our youngest students, birth through age 3, to share classroom experiences with their children. Our PAT™ certified educators facilitate the classrooms and provide free home visits. Parents as Teachers™ programs are offered at the Glendale/Mountain View Community Learning Center and Rose Park Elementary. A small tuition is charged for in-class programs only.

Children attend without their parents in our classes for four-year-olds. Pre-kindergarten classes for students who will be four-years-old before September 1, 2015 are offered at the following elementary schools: Backman, Bennion, Edison, Escalante, Franklin, Jackson, Lincoln, Meadowlark, Newman, North Star, Parkview, Riley, Rose Park, Washington, Whittier, and the Glendale/Mountain View Community Learning Center. Monthly tuition at these sites is based on a sliding scale for qualifying families.

Pre-kindergarten classes for students who will be four-years-old before September 1, 2015 are also offered at Beacon Heights Elementary and Ensign Elementary and require a set monthly tuition.

Parents as Teacher™ family connection events are free of charge and are offered throughout the year.

We also offer a kindergarten readiness program during the summer for a small fee.
